september

Well, September is pretty much over! Considering the school year has started and we've both been sick repeatedly, we've been doing a lot of fun stuff.
The deer finally discovered the smorgasbord that is our garden, but we still manage to eat what they don't like. It seems that they're rather picky, thank goodness! Yesterday I was out there cutting flowers when I discovered this little visitor:

I don't know the last time I saw a praying mantis, but they're pretty awesome! I could see this one's body move in and out when it breathed. My favorite part of how they got their name is that "mantis" is Greek for prophet or fortune-teller. Look how creepy/cool/alienesque this one is:

We've eaten good food including heirloom tomatoes and carmelized pepper/onion pizza.

One of my oldest friends (not age-wise) came for a visit, which was so much fun! We shared stories, laughs and Washtenaw Dairy doughnuts.

This political season hasn't gotten boring yet, so we've spent quite a bit of time talking and reading about all the characters and their antics. My Barack shirt came the other day, so I wore it to the Michigan game yesterday. I don't have any Wisconsin gear, and I surely wasn't going to root for the Wolverines when they're up against the Badgers. The presidential contest also seems a tiny bit more important than any Big Ten game. Call me crazy. We drank Leinies as a nod to my homeland, though.
